Just FYI. I have a 2004 F250 6.0. I have had the truck for seven months and have had nothing but problems from the paint and the dealer.
The truck had a small pencil eraser size ding in the drivers door when I bought it new from the dealer. They said "we will fix it, just bring it back". I brought the truck back and the door was fixed and repainted,,,, the wrong color. It has now been seven months, six differnet paint jobs and several yelling matches with the dealer. I just picked up my truck today and the paint still does not match (lighter and less flake) and the problem is evident in the sun light. I have called the dealer, called Ford, called the BBB, wrote the DSB and still have no answer on my truck being repaired correctly. The truck has 6000 miles and I cannot place the brand new Snug top topper on the truck because of the paint problems. They have repainted the entire left side and some of the right side of the truck trying to "blend" the paint.
The color is Dark Shadow Grey, I was told by the painter that there is several different sub-colors of this color. He told me it depends on where it was assembled. Just be cautious if you need paint work and you have the Dark Shadow Grey color.
The truck has been out of service now for about 33 days and the dealer has yet to give up on a rental vehicle. Ford also told me the paint problems are the selling dealers issues and the I cannot take the truck to another dealer for repair.
That sucks! Sorry to hear about that, my bosses wifes truck is the dark shadow grey and I wondered if it would be hard to paint, sounds like what you really need is a bigger Ford dealer that has painted a lot of these trucks and knows how to shoot the color the right way.
I have had several friends have to have their 03 cobras repainted in DSG because of thin paint problems, color matches perfectly. I would demand to go to a reputable shop, other than fords body-shop. Alot of places have ways of matching it before it is sprayed.
just got my 05 350 2 weeks ago. my sons father in law owns a body shop and repainted my fiberglass cover from true blue to dark shadow gray. the match is perfect. painting fiberglass to match can be very tricky. the biggest thing when repainting is the build date. most dealer bodyshops do not have the best painters.
A repitable shop will have "camera" persay that will take a picture of your paint, the camera identifies what colors and amount of each need to be mixed in order to get a perfect match. These cameras allow body shops to match faded and altered paint jobs that do no match the code.
On another note I have an 03 with the DSG paint and the passenger door had to have some work done to it after a snow plow backed into me. Paint looks great although It will be getting redone soon due to a small dent underneith the mirror. but as far a paint it looks fine, perfect match.
After I took delivery of my truck I was told by the Customer Service Rep (trying to sell me add-ons) that Dark Shadow Grey is one of the most difficult colors to match.
No issues yet, but I could of stuck with White like my last three trucks. So much for change.
I have an blk 03 sd that I ordered new. When I got it home I noticed that the paint had orange peel very badly. I complained about it and the dealer had a factory rep come look at the truck. I got an extened 5 year 70000 mile warranty out of it from ford.
I know how you feel. My truck got damaged at the dealer. I was in for service and left with a larger paint chip in the passenger side door. The dealer said not their problem. So I had to pay $500 to get the whole cab repainted to match, which looks pretty good, but I will always know it was repainted. I am super picky. My truck is silver and just is hard to match. I am still mad as heck!!
Some dealers just plain suck. I had work done at a ford dealer in Calif. and one of the SOB's stole the stinking air bag out from the stearing wheel and even had the stones to put an old used cover over the thing. People are people!!!
