How do you all go about installing the copper washer? I used a 8 or 9mm deep socket to push them on. Is that right or did I do the damage to them myself?
That is exactly how you are supposed to. Just do not push down too much at first, only to making contact. When you torque down on the hold down, the crush washer will "crush" to form the seal.
Clean the cup, re-ring the injector and blow out the hold down bolt hole and see what happens. 10 bucks for the o ring kit from alliant vs 203.50 + core for the injector. Not sure what you mean by the washer being "up". It should seat on the base of the tip with the 2 raised parts toward the injector and the single raised part towards the tip. Tip is black because it is in the combustion chamber. If the body of the injector is black past the tip then you have a leaking or blown copper washer. 24 lbft for the T40 and 26lbft for the T45 hold down bolt.
Just assuring you got this part.
Hope how I wrote it makes sense to you because I know what I mean in my own mind
Yeah I got the washer part. I had actually already resealed all 8 injectors a couple weeks ago. That's why I just put #2 and #6 back in. I never heard it called a "crush washer" but now it makes sense to replace them. I just hate I got almost done with it and now I'm pulling them back out again! Life of a 6.0 I guess. Gonna be a late night.
I've got another question/concern. I've had slightly high HPO pressure at startup, and it climbed a little right before the hydrolock happened. Could this failed copper washer maybe be the cause of that? Could the injector have been leaking a little at the washer, causing the system to call for more pressure? I'm not 100% clear on how the HPO system works, but I thought it was worth a shot to ask. It's around 750-850 at startup and slowly goes down to normal as it warms up. I won't know if the new injector made a difference until I get done but maybe someone can give me their thoughts on it
Yeah I've got a spare fuel filter, and I just bought 6 injector oring kits!
Yes it sucks but they would have come back out shortly after you started driving it and then you might have really been cussing
Those Alliant kits are a steal for what they cost, and you just never know when one or all of the kit might come in handy.
As Randy stated, that is just fine for pressure at start up. It will(should) decrease as the oil thins out on temp rise. Upper 500's to mid 600's in normal at hot idle.
