Sometimes when I start the engine in cold temps, I get a slight click click click sound, almost like an old engine with high miles waiting for the lifters to pump up with oil pressure, with in a minute or two it goes away (you can actually here the noise go away). Is this normal? The truck has 1800 miles on it 6.7L, did the first oil change at 1000 miles. I just hope its not suffering from the dreaded oil pump issue. Also, upon start up, the oil pressure gauge moves to normal with in 1.5 seconds.
These diesels now are so quiet, you can hear lots of things. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the oil pressure is coming up. The other thing I notice is they start really fast. One other thing you might be hearing is when it first starts isn't does sound like a diesel and within a. Few seconds noise cancelling injection starts and it quiets down. So, you could be hearing that too.

Maybe take a video? Take it to the dealer if you are worried. However, you may get the "we couldn't duplicate the concern" response.
I'm not too concerned about it, but it has caught my attention. I agree with what mhoefer posted, it is a very quiet motor, and after running my '97 7.3L for the last 20 years, ....I hear all kinds of sounds that I'm not used too, the 7.3 always drowned them out, lol.
I read a post on here from someone that said that noise is normal as the pilot injection doesn't come into play until the engine is at least a little warm.
i hear the same noise and actually see a little bit of smoke.
Its a lifter type noise, I'm old enough to know what that sounds like. I purchased an F350 on a Friday, my brother purchased a F250 the next day, both 6.7. Sitting side by side in my driveway his had a fairly loud lifter noise when started, mine was quiet, no lifter noise whatsoever.

LOL, I'm old enough too (57), thats why the title for this says "lifter noise", didn't realize I was showing my age.

Kids today missed out on a lot of cool stuff. Buying a carburetor kit, cleaning your carb and putting a new kit in it on a Saturday. Replacing a distributor cap, rotor, and points. Setting the gap on spark plugs.
