You have to go to the trailer menu and chose no trailer. It thinks you still have a trailer hooked up. And no, you're not stupid. Many others including myself have had to discover this. Ford needs to redo its software so that when you disconnect a trailer the truck realizes itt just like it notices when you hook one up.

I believe the reason they require you to say "no active trailer" is so that if a wire in the harness/plug breaks it won't think you've disconnected it. They may consider it a safety feature since the truck behaves a little differently when a trailer is connected. (whatever trailer sway control is. And it calculates DTE differently.)

The disappointing thing about this "feature" is everythime you forget, you are clicking off recorded miles on the trailer you had selected. If you want to keep accurate track, which is what that trailer odometer is for, it is useless.
I have 3 trailers setup in the menu. I forget everytime to go to no active trailer.
I always notice while driving...can't change it while driving!
After I stop, I've forgotten. Notice next time I'm driving...can't change it while driving!
My miles are all wrong now.
Again, nice feature Ford.....again (like some others), poorly thought out.
