FE Build / Donor Block

I currently have a 67' F100 4x4 with a 360 out of what I believe to be a 74' F100. I want to start a FE build but also still have my current truck drivable, so I think I am going to go down the route of finding a donor block. I am probably going to go to pick-a-part and look for a donor. What vehicles / blocks should I look for specifically? My goal is to build a FE preferably a 390 that is going to be used as a daily driver / work truck, nothing fancy. I will more than likely go with aluminum intake / 4bbl / headers / dual exhaust just to open things up a bit. I am going to take my time with this build so I am in no rush and would like to plan everything out as much as possible.

Any input is appreciated.

King

I wish you luck. I haven't seen an FE motor in Pick-a-Part in ages that wasn't behind the impound fence. That's why I have a standard bore numbers correct spare block sitting on a shelf in my workshop for my 69 CJ. Just in case I should need it one day. I've probably had it for 20 some years now.

I would look for '73-'76 pick ups that have the 360 or 390 mirror 105 block. The mirror 105 blocks have the reinforced main webbing and most seem to have less core shift than the earlier DIF FE blocks.

This. Any ole 360 block will be perfect for this, as long as it's in good shape.

Back in the '80s and '90s I always searched for the '68 full size cars at the wrecking yards. I pulled a few 428's out of the Q code cars and they all had the "C" scratch blocks with the reinforced main webbing.

It's like finding a diamond to come across one now, esp. a good one. I remember waling the junk yards and thinking that these FE's were dime a dozen and not worth the time to pull them.
