I Bought some thing that attaches between your IAT and the computer or somthing, but the only problem is i have no idea where my IAT is, i Took apart just about every piece on the intake and couldnt find anythng But the MAF. I have a 94 ranger 4x4 4.0L. If the maf is also a iat, then that will work, but i dont know if it is, also a map sys will work also, but i have no idea where any of it is, so any pics or info would be great
Peter, what is it that you bought? I cannot think of anything that you could attach b/t the IAT and the computer that would be of any benefit to your motor.
The IAT on my '98 4.0L is located inside my air intake duct.
I believe that on '94 and earlier Rangers there is an Inlet Air Temperature Control System which could take the place of the IAT, but I'm not positive about that.
Heres the website of the thing i bought http://www.nextlevelracing.com/stage1.htm. I ran across it and i had never seen any fourms on it so i decided to order one, and see if it works, I think i found somthing on the intake manifold that could possibly be the IAT, so i hooked it onto that, i guess i havent really noticed much, but i think you are right that it does have some kind of temp control system. i think i remember reading about it somwhere, maybe thats why i dont notice a difference with it on, anyway, thanks for the info
It sounds like to old resistor trick, it fools the PCM into thinking the air is colder than it really is and gives you more timing advance but can cause the engine to ping.
