...Ford decided to build the Flareside again? I would think it would be relatively easy, as it would just need a narrower bed and tailgate. Instead of using the custom flowed fenders on the '97-'03,'04-'08, it could use the fenders on the dually Super Duty, like it was with the OBS and earlier generations.
I know, I know, just about zero market for another Flareside, but it's a possibility for someone who would want to modify a current F150.
I wonder if it's possible to either bolt the Super Duty fenders on an F-150 bed, or use Super Duty bed sides (body lines lining up)?
I've always liked them. My guess is that sales were so poor on them that dropping the option was cheaper than producing them. I liked the last few years of the option when Ford was putting the Flareside bed on SuperCrews. I would have bought one of those if I was in the market for a new truck at the time. I believe they stopped offering it in '09 or '10.
Ford is missing an opportunity not offering a retro bed on the modern trucks, my low quality photoshop on my cell phone clearly shows how awesome a '56 F100 bed looks. We're just talking a bed here a custom bed option wouldn't be to much to ask.
Id buy one in a heart beat. Owned gm stepsides prior to goin to the HD models, love the look of them, think the raptor would look great with a stepside box also.
The dually bed? Why not just buy a dually, no need to photoshop that's what it'd look like... a Superduty.I think a modern version of the old stepsides would be sweet.

That's what I was talking about: going back to the style of the old Flaresides; they just used dually fenders on a narrower bed. All think you would need to do is find a way to make a narrower version of the current tailgate, mount dually fenders to the current bed fenders, and cut a foot wide section out of the middle of the bed.
Back in the late 80's and early 90's, i drove the gmc stepside 4x4, the box was perfect width for any home depot runs and it was 6.5 foot long with the tailgate up. Never liked the fleetside boxes, ever!! My budd had a 2004 or 2005 ford stepside 4x4 ext. cab, this truck was pretty, it was silver colored with nice rims, dont know if aftermarket or factory but it sure looked like one tuff truck. Like i said earlier, id buy one right now if they made one that looked good.
I think I would like a modern rendition of a late 30's ford pickup. Those front ends with the headlight pods and running boards made the rear step-side boxes look like they really belonged together.
But probably a lot or R&D cost for a limited market. Also aerodynamics for fuel efficiency given the strong enviro regulations now.
