Bed choice, and why

I was just curious and I was wondering how many of the super duty owners would opt for 5-1/2' bed from the f150 if they offered it. I don't think they ever will, but even if they did, I would never order it. I personally prefer the 8' but would be perfectly cool with the 6-1/2' because you can lower the tailgate and then it's an 8'.

So would you opt for it and so we can get an idea of how you think, what did you go with/plan to go with on your super duty?

Real trucks have 8 foot beds. I can't even understand why most trucks on the road seam to have sissy 6.5 beds.....just having fun guys, don't attack me....I know I'm outnumbered

The 5.5 bed wouldn't be near attractive, from a tax deduction standpoint the bed needs to be over 6' long.

If you only need a 5.5ft bed.. then all you need is a F-150
Otherwise no 5th wheel/ gooseneck and in that small of bed, where will you fit the extra payload weight (dont even start on trying to fit a tool box).

I wouldn't even buy an F150 with that worthless short bed. Except maybe a Raptor...

I hope to never see anything like this driving down the road. Ford would have to relocate the fuel filler door as well as its gone in this bed length.

what if they offered a 6 door 8 passenger super duper cab with a 5.5 bed? it could haul a lot of guys to the work site and pull any bumper pull trailer they want. Perfect alternative for guy with a large family.

If i was handy with photo shop i would have made you one

A cooler, toolbox and a bicycle fills up a 5.5" bed. I would have considered an F150 if they offered a crew cab 8' bed.

One of the main reasons I decided to get a super duty was because I wanted a crew cab 8 foot bed. No manufacturer makes that in a half ton.

I forgot to add my reason why and I'm not sure how to edit my previous post. I'm tired of using straps every time I get 8 foot lumber and you can never have too much room in the bed in my opinion. If I want to drive something that's easy to park I'll drive my Flex. Having a half ton Silverado with a 6.5 bed has gotten old over the years. Crew cab 8 foot F350 Lariat should solve my problems.

Leading into the purchase of my 2017 F250 I'd had various trucks by Ford, Dodge, and Toyota of various bed sizes. Without a doubt, the trucks with smaller beds were my least favorite.

In terms of ride quality and utility, give me a long bed every day. I'll deal with the parking issues for 30 seconds every time I park to gain the utility of the CCLB the rest of the time (paraphrased quote from some smart guy on here that I can't remember his handle).

The Super Duty "short bed" is 6.8 feet long. I've had 4 trucks with this configuration. For me, it works great. You can load 1-ton of wood pellets in no problem. I had a 1200lb flail mower in the bed, no problem. I carry weed wackers, multiple 5 gallon containers of gasoline and diesel, I've carried lumber, and loaded the bed with cut cord wood. I've loaded both ATVs and snowmobiles in the bed. It has always served me perfectly well. Folks that say the short bed is just a 'lifestyle' bed or for sissies are missing the fact that the 6.8' foot bed does pretty much everything the long bed does, with the bonus of a shorter turning circle, a higher payload capacity, a better ramp breakover angle, and subjectively, a better proportioned truck.

I guess if you constantly need to be hauling longer items, then get the long bed. But for virtually all normal 'truck' tasks, I think the short bed is fine.

I ended up with an 8' bed this time because I decided to get a dually. I appreciate the large fuel tank, but otherwise I would have just bought another CCSB truck.

I went for the 8 foot bed so I can put two 48" pallets in there and still be able to close the gate. We move 1200 pound pallets from time to time and there is no way I'm going to set a heavy pallet half way on an open tail gate with a bed extender. Plus now if I want to take my daughter to ride quads for the day I don't need to pull my lil utility trailer. I can easily fit our two quads in a 8' bed.

I will say i do like the look of the short bed but I love the utility of the long bed. Anyone who thinks size doesn't matter has a lying wife.

Short beds are handy and don't look down on guys that have them. However, for me, if the short bed is not real useful if you have a decent sized slip tank. I had a 100 gallon L shaped modified for a SB dodge and had a 12x12" box cut out to make room for the GN. Was a headache but was needed. I have the need for carrying diesel so that makes the LB a better choice for me. Adding on a toolbox makes it even better
