I have a 72 Explorer with package "D" option with Durango tan or Lt Golden Rod paint. It has a "X" on the door plate. Has anybody found were to get some paint as I would like to paint my roof. It seems to be hard to find the codes for this or I am any ways. Its an original paint truck so just want to clean up some of the bad spots. Thanks Darrell
An automotive paint and body supply house should be able to mix up the original paint. But It will not match because the truck paint has faded. But many of them can scan your actual truck and mix a paint that will match the current paint.
"X" is the code.
1972 "X" = Light Goldenrod Yellow. Any local Automotive Paint Store should be able to mix it up. This is a pretty old vehicle for them, but they may even have a variety of cards with slightly different shades of that paint to dial in a match.
Yes boys and girls, sometimes it's better to NOT buy something on line.
I knew the tail gate and the inside of the box was painted a long time ago but I never noticed that it had a 66 tailgate. Inside of box is pretty beat up as this must have been a working truck. A friend brought this to me from Kansas from the original owner who had his license taken away.
