What type of replacement brake pad/rotor experiences have you had? Had bad experience with the recommendation by AZone on the Taurus that will wake the neighbors with squealing until warm. Now it's time for the 2005 Mariner. Thanks for your opinions.
thanks for reply's, looked on Rock auto and Motorcraft says the OE was organic but Raysbestos says OE was ceramic. Crap shoot, going to check with Ford dealer this week. It doesn't squeal or have much dust so I'm guessing it's the ceramic on it now. 121,000 and 1 brake job at Ford so far. Think I'll just tell them to put on the same as they did last time, didn't realize it had been so long since replacement.
Save you a chunk of money against buying factory brake pads and rotors.
If your rotors don't have deep groves in them, and are thick enough, have them machined. Buy Wagner ceramic brake pads. They will last you a long time, depending on driving habits and if you tow a lot, and with an Escape, I'd hope not. And you will see next to zero brake dust like you will get from a cheap brake pad.
Wagner is the first name that always pops to mind. Just got a coupon from Ford via e-mail for 179 per axel, Geez didn't want to put another down payment on it by the time they had it in service bay jail. Thanks for the advice.
I highly recommend Powerstop pads and rotors. I've had them on my full sie van and they are fantastic. Very powerful brakes. Better than you're thinking right now.
Well I think I'll be doing this myself since the dealer wants $346.00 for front rotors and pads. No mention of the rears on the estimate even thought I had asked to inspect the brakes. Wonder what the estimate would have been if I'd driven in a Model T.

LOL. About a year ago, I took my '98 Ranger in a national chain for some new tires. I filled out all the necessary paper work and gave the ignition key to one of the tire boys, who I noticed seemed all very young.
As he took the key, I asked him if any of the employees knew how to drive a stick-shift, as my Ranger has a manual transmission.
He assured me that "Igor" was on duty and he was the man that they went to when somebody brought in a vehicle with a manual transmission. I took a quick glance at "Igor" and I was somewhat reassured, as Igor looked like he was at least 75 years old.
I wonder what they will do when Igor no longer works there?
My $0.02...
Wagner is my brand, Semi-ceramic is my choice. As mentioned, no dust and never a squeak.
FWIW: Just did the brakes (all 4 wheels) on our Kia yesterday. My total cost was just over half the cost quoted to 5851a for a single axle. Not a tough job either. Pretty simple actually.
I did the brakes on my '02 a couple times and they're not difficult either.

Funny, I had a 1997 Ranger with a 5-speed manual shift. I took it to Discount Tire, IIRC, it always had a rough spot in the shift pattern after that!
