With the numbers of EcoBoosts being sold and GMs experience with Turbo gas engines (Grand National, Syclone, Typhoon), you'd think that they would have a competitive offering. I wonder if they ever will.
I dunno. They are doing a downright impressive job squeaking more gas mileage out of relatively antiquated 2V V8s. There are a great many people who dislike change, and prefer established technology.
Turbo gas engines are rapidly becoming the norm, rather than the exception. Sooner or later I'm sure a turbo engine will show up in their engine lineup, but they would be smart to hold onto their 2V V8s for years to come.
I think Ford will be able to "tune" the transmission for performance, economy, towing, etc...
Just read an article about Chevrolet's 2017 Camaro ZL1, the 10 speed is an option on that vehicle, a 6 speed manual is standard. The 10 speed equipped car does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and quarter mile @ 11.4 / 127 MPH where as the 6 Speed manual is 3.7 seconds and 11.8 / 125 MPH. Not a Chevy commercial here, just pointing out that technology has came a looonng way and the 10 speed can be adapted to different applications with great results.
When I get the itch for a new truck, the 10 speed will definitely be on my radar.
The bummer with comparing the 6 speed and 10 speed is the fact it won't be apples to apples considering all the engines will updated or changed compared to their 6 Speed counterparts.
Apologize if this has been covered already, but anyone towed heavy with the new 10-speed? It's been my assumption that the extra gearing would be a real bonus in that situation, but always nice to hear from someone who has done it.
