Heck no, you don't need a lawyer if your truck is low on oil. The light will come on if there is low oil pressure.
I do suggest using a lawyer to help you on the first oil change. Get the lawyer to remove the oil filter with his suit on. You don't want any part of that..
You don't need to beat yourself up about that. Few people check the dipstick on delivery. If the oil pressure was low, there would have been an indicator that said so. If anything you can use FORScan and see if there are any DTC's that would have recorded a low oil pressure event.
well thanks for your guys help , this morn went out and did the same cold start, ran for about 10 seconds and i shut down and chked the oil level and sure enough it was just above the bottom line. it was just a combination of the oil maintence light coming on at 3000 miles and me chking it right after i shut it down cold that me puzzled! anytime u see a dipstick with no oil on it , it just doesnt seem right. but apparently this thing really sucks the oil up into the pump. i also got some bad info from other dealership service department, on the oil level after shut down.

Out of curiosity, why are you starting for 10 sec, shutting down and THEN checking the oil?? This process is going to give you a false "low" reading as the pump has now filled all the oil passages completely full.
Check your oil level in the morning BEFORE you start the engine to get the most accurate level reading.
If I'm missing something here, someone please educate me.
because the oil maintenance light came on when i started it. and truck only has 3000 miles. so i shut off and checked oil. not sure how i can explain that any better. if u turned on ur truck with 3000 miles and an oil maintenance came on would u not shut off and check?? my cummins was never like that if i checked the oil after starting it. the whole dip stick would show oil, because it would splash up . i know its not ideal to chck after a start. but the dip stick had no oil on it. i did the same thing this morn because i knew the oil had been changed and was filled correctly because i watched them do it, so i tested it again the next morn to see what the dipstick showed and it showed extremely low. it was a test ! i just wasnt familiar with the way the 6.7 circulated the oil. i am now
Got it, thanks! I didn't realize you were simply repeating your previous procedure as a way to verify the fix. Glad it is all good now, thanks for the explanation!
This morning I started my truck as it was parked outside with the engine cold from sitting overnight. I recently rearranged things in my garage so I can park the truck inside. I fired it up and pulled it into the garage, total run time was less than one minute, I never do this.
About half an hour later I checked the oil level, I was surprised to see that it only half way up the hash marks on the dipstick. Prior checks have always indicated a higher oil level as indicated in the photo. I waited another two hours and checked it again, it had come up a bit but was still low.
I drove into town and back, reaching full engine temp, parked in the exact same spot, waited 20 mins and checked the oil level. It was full, I took this photo. The owners manual is clear, the oil level should only be checked once the engine has reached full temp, then wait for at least 15 mins after shut down.
Ps. Any body have input to the oil level shown on the dipstick? To me it looks like it is over capacity but this is my first 6.7 It isn't oil dilution because it has been like this since I took delivery at 17 miles.

There is a good chance it is overfilled as the manual states 15 qts, but the engine only requires 13 qts. then again. I have been proven wrong a few times on the forum today, so let's just say. Yes, it's possible.
