Dont usually post much but had a weird experience just before and have to ask if any of you have anything similar happen. Started the truck up and is sounded very strange pressed on accelerator and nothing. was idling low rpm. stepped on it a couple more times and it came to life. have made a few short trips with is and acts like normal. have any of you experienced this before.

Any codes? Might be something as simple as the accelerator pedal acting up.
Well this happened two other times yesterday. Again no codes. Talked to my mechanic and he thinks it might be a sensor putting truck in limp mode. High temp oil or coolant. Or Fuel Pressure. Got to try and figure out how to record readings on dash boss to see if it picks up something.
If you want to follow the sensor line of thinking, it's usuially caused by a short. This can be verified by a drop in vRef while the condition is happening. So keep that value up on the display and glance at it next time it messes up. EBP sensor and fan "clutch" and wiring are common culprits.

Thanks. Ive been recording the data on dash boss last few times I started the truck but of course it has not done it again. Will keep trying.

well stopped and fueled up and truck won't stay running will go idle real low rpm for a couple seconds then die I used sct scanner and pulled
p1334 egr position sensor I have egr deleted and the butterfly thing removed would this sensor keep if from starting thank
It doesn't sound like the EGR throttle position sensor code is related to the engine dying.
Can you post the temperatures? KOEO, and after starting (assuming you can keep it running long enough to see good readings).
oil, coolant, transmission, IAT1 and IAT2
Also, we need to know the ICPv and ICP pressure when cranking and at idle (again if it stays running long enough).
And - it would be good to see the vref value as Rusty mentioned.
Most of this stuff is above me so please bear with me. I took it to my mechanic today and he checked it out. Temps are normal. This is what he wrote on bill.
ICP drops to 0 when symptoms presents (cuts out).
-Most likely ICP or HPOP issue.
It wouldn't start a few times and then it did. He was showing me what the problem he was seeing on the computer while he was trying to start it but I didn't really understand what he was showing me.
Quoted me approx $2400 if that is what it is. I told him I would drive it close to home
e till it dies then we will know for sure what the problem is. Another mechanic that was recommended quoted me approx $1500 to replace HPOP. first guy is the one that has done all the work on the truck ( studs injectors garrett turbo BP diesel oil cooler regulated return.....) Big difference in price between the two mechanics.
What do you guys think. Im pissed but what to do at this point.
Drive the truck with the ICP unplugged and see how it does. It will code for the sensor and turn the CEL on as well. Should operate fine as long as there is pressure to run the truck. If in fact it is dropping to 0, the unplugged sensor won't stop it from happening.
$1500 to $2400 is a significant difference, but it depends on several things. Do you trust the cheaper guy? How well will he treat your rig? What year is your EX?
If early 2003 then they will need to tear off the whole top side including the manifold to get to the HPOP. If later then they can replace pump with only needing to get as far as the turbo out to do the job.
Also, what gaskets and parts are they going to use? Ford OEM gaskets should be the only ones you go with. Some will say Alliant are good too, but they are also not cheap.
If it is the ICP, then make sure they use a Motorcraft part to replace and assure they replace the pigtail for it. Again, if it is only the ICP then your price should only be several hundred with them doing the job.
Do as Randy is suggesting with unplugging the ICP. It being unplugged will not harm the truck. If the truck starts and runs fine with the ICP unplugged then that should be your problem.
It is hard to believe that the DashBoss would not pick up a code for low ICP, or even a shorted out ICP. That seems to be one of the more "reliable" codes.
The guy that is more expensive is very good mechanic but expensive and not close to me. This other mechanic only works on diesels and has come recommended by a couple friends with similar trucks.
the truck is a 2005 excursion. I think it is a november 2004 motor.
Where is the ICP That I can unplug?
Thanks for all the help
