Just received my 3 inch weigh safe 180 from Trunk Monkey. It will not move to the stow away position as the receiver is wider at the back than the front. I can only assume they tried to use the same sliding ball assembly with the 3 inch as the 2 1/2 inch. I just got off the phone with Weigh Safe and they just now figured this to be a problem. They agreed to keep me informed with a possible solution, but for now, the hitch will not stow away on the 3 inch models, either with the 180 or the scale version. I'm disappointed as I was looking forward to having a stow away 3 inch hitch.
With the 3 inch version the ball assembly can not turn around. It appears they tried to use the same assembly for the 3 inch and didn't consider the stow capability
I see now what your talking about
I will be removing my hitch when not used if your in an accident and your hitch is in and not used you can be charged at least in Ontario not sure that applies everywhere
I saw that too when I got mine. No way to turn it around. But there's no way I would run it that way. I had the hitch in with a trailer on it for a couple of days and when i took it off the road salt was well on its way to dimming up the aluminum. The part where the stainless steel ball slides into the base holds the salty water and creates a dirty black solution that stains the stainless. Dissimilar metals + salt solution can't be a good long term thing. Not like it's a big deal, the only time you see the ball base is when it's not in use. I always remove the hitch when not in use and store it under the back seat. Now I'll just wipe it off if it's wet when I do it. But yeah, no turning around the 3 inch version. I was thinking it's because it has such high ratings. 21,000 lbs towing.
Funny, I left them a question on their "contact us" page about this on Sunday, seeing if they had plans to make it storable, and the reply simply said that as of right now they don't have anything to make it stowable. There was no mention of anything being in the works or looked into.

Pull the hitch pin, take out the hitch, put it behind your seat in your truck, and consider it stowed.
Glad that's a solution for you guys and certainly is for any hitch out there. However, I have used hitches from B&W that do advertise and provide stowable capabilities and that's one of the reasons i purchased Weigh Safe. I may have to take this one out too for it to fit my garage and protect shins, but my preference is to rotate it out of the way vs. move the entire 23 pound hitch each time.

Wasn't asking for advice or what you do with your hitch, nor telling anyone else what to do with their hitch, or how to make use of the space under or behind their seat. What works for you, works for YOU...clearly there's a demand for stowable hitches, as well as other brands to choose....the OP and myself were just commenting on the lack of versatility in the 3" version, and that perhaps it may not be a feature to hold out for, in case others could benefit from the communications with the manufacturer....just as we all know that the obvious solution is to remove it, we also know that it doesn't take any great feat to point out the obvious...I will continue to decide which hitch I want to purchase to LEAVE IN....

Perhaps you would have preferred a more succinct response such as "OK"? Last time I checked the purpose of a forum is to discuss things. Chances are you will find lots of different views and perspectives. Heaven forbid.
Just an update for those who are interested in a stow away hitch -- after talking to folks at Weigh Safe and exchanging really nice emails from the CEO, they will be changing their information to set expectations on the 3 inch not being stowable. In addition, he has asked his engineering team to revisit the design to explore a resolution and will keep me posted and I will pass it on to this forum. He did not commit to providing a solution, but he also gave impression that he would trade out the 3 inch drawbar if they are able to retrofit the stowaway design.

Not a matter of what I prefer in a reply...Not my first forum membership or post, so I'm well aware of the various views and perspectives.... I'm also aware that perspectives differ, and that there's no need to quote people to utter my perspective for a 2nd time, in a manner as if to be insistent that my perspective is the ultimate solution, because it works for me... I get it, he's happy, happy, happy putting his under/behind the seat, and you're happy, happy, happy keeping yours free of the elements...Clearly the OP and I want stowable in the receiver as an option to go along with the obvious.... Perhaps we use underneath and behind our seats for something else...
