Ah, that works out for you Tom. Can't do that here. The only way to get the sales tax credit in MA is to trade....
That sucks, because in that case, the state is double dipping on taxes if you sell outright. Also, keep in mind that my truck is an '08 so that extra $2500 is about 11% more than trade in.
I feel for ya buddy. I bitch about our taxes but I know we aren't as bad off as others. Amazon just started collecting MO sales tax yesterday too dammit!
We got hit with Amazon tax a couple years back. The trick now is to order from a vendor who has their item "fulfilled by Amazon" or FBA. Then you get your usual fast and free Prime shipping and amazing Amazon return privileges without paying sales tax.

Ahh, thanks for the tip. Maybe I will order my new fifth wheel hitch from Amazon after all...
Here's the best deal you can do on a hitch. Google the one want extensively. Find the absolute best price on the net. It doesn't matter if it some place you never heard of. Just the lowest price that includes shipping. Then order from etrailer. As soon as you get your order confirmation email, respond to it saying you are requesting a refund due to their 110% low price pledge. Within a few hours you will get a reply saying they have refunded you 110% of the difference between their price and the cheaper price shown on the website you emailed them the link to. So, while etrailer is never the cheapest to begin with, they always end up being the cheapest due to this policy. They say you can do this anytime within 30 days but I usually like to do it ASAP as the site you found it on for less may change.
You guys selling outright doing that well vs. trade? Every time I try that, the sales tax credit evens it out and it's not worth the effort. Perhaps it's worth trying again though if others are having luck pulling good numbers this way.
Like Tom, I came out $2500 ahead of trade in.

The company I work for did work on the new Amazon distribution center here, so I knew it was coming...made my last tax free order Tuesday.

If you're going with the B&W (RVK 3300) rvautoparts.com had the best price I found ($830.12 w/ free shipping), and etrailer did price match. I even got them to eat the sales tax, as they are here in Missouri, but the gal that processes the price match refund was resistant to doing it. Luckily, I called before I ordered and confirmed that they would, otherwise Tweetys.com only wanted to beat it by a penny, in which case, I would have just given the order to rvautoparts.com. After a few phone calls, it was all straightened out, and they refunded me $221.xx off of their $959 + 81.04 tax.
Awesome stuff guys...thanks for the tips! I didn't realize etrailer did 110% price match. Now to sell my old hitch...
I already had a companion hitch, and was going to keep the coupler and just buy a new base for $350-375....figured it'd be easier to sell the whole companion instead of trying to sell just a base, (which I did for $550) and pay the difference for the whole new setup, which ended up having me only out $277 over the selling price of my old one, so it was actually less than buying just a base.

Dude, I'm in the exact same boat. Hoping to get $550 for my Patriot.
