Ok guys i am dumbfounded. Ill keep it short and sweet. I have i 1969 ford 100 2wd 360fe auto. I recently got this truck from where it was sitting for 25 years. I put a hot battery and new points condenser and coil on it. I also rebuild the carb. i had the carb adjusted perfectly. It was running and idling perfectly. I go out there the next day and all of the sudden it is barley running. i have to hold the throttle down to just keep it barley running and now it backfiring really bad. I have went trough and looked at everything i could think of I have checked the coil wire, i replaced the plugs and wires, i rechecked my point gab, i tried a different coil, i tried spraying starting fluid straight in, i checked both the coil wires and still the same thing. i feel like its a ignition issue by the way its acting. Please any advice would be appreciated.
Try running a small jump wire from battery+ side to you coil+ side and start it and see if it runs any better. This bypasses the ign switch an the starting circuit.
Plenty of Chinese condensor that fail any where from one day to a one yr.
If you still have the old one put it back in an see how it runs.
Have to do a compression test as unleaded gas burns up the exh. seats.
It may be a good idea to check them.
X2 on the Petronics . Also as Orich posted a compression should be done. I have seen engines that had been laid up for long periods start and the next day develop a stuck valve. The varnish turns to glue and really binds up in the valve guides. This just happened to me 3 weeks ago on a 62 Pontiac that had been not started in 20 years. Hopefully your problem is ignition only.
Ok guys, yall where right on the money. The condenser was bad, I put a new one on there and it fired right up and did perfect. I've looked at putting a different ignition system on the truck but I don't really want to spend the extra money because the engine's going to be coming out soon and replaced with a 460. Thank you guys for all the feedback the condenser would have been the last thing I checked.
There really needs to be a Surgeon Generals warning on them fake condensers... If you want to run the points, replace that too with good Motorcraft or NOS. They aren't much better than the condensers.
Glad to hear that's what it was. How did you clean out the tank after it sat for so long? Did you change the filter that's on the bottom of the fuel pump?
