Hello all. Im new to the Expedition Ecoboost but Ive owned Fords 1.0 Ecoboost and that was a heckuva a motor. Had to turn it in though (lease). The wife and I just purchased a CPO 2016 Ford Expedition with 21K on it. So far we love it. But I cannot leave anything alone so I'm already looking at things to mod, within reason of course. One item I am interested in is catch cans. How many of you have them, thought about getting them or have seen results? Many a thread has mentioned due to the design (boosted/direct injection) this is a life saver. I want to avoid any potential issues and I desire to keep my Expy for years to come. If responding please mention price, site purchased, pros/cons and any other relevant info.
I wanted to get one, and the one I was looking at was like $400. Have read about good results and long term benefits of reducing carbon build up that could only be removed by removing the heads.
But I decided to leave it stock because I have a warranty till some time in 2021 and the dealer said while any denied warranty claims would have to prove the catch can caused the problem that it wouldn't be worth the hassle if it ever came up. And as long as you stay on top of oil changes and maintenance they have been getting hundreds of thousands of miles out of these.
I change my oil at 5k miles which is usually 50% life remaining on the dash but do to fuel dilution and these carbon problems I'm sticking with 5k intervals.
As explained to me by a speed demon on my mail route who owns a number of gas turbo vehicles, jump on the go pedal on a regular basis to keep the engine happy and healthy. And, it'll put a big on your face and make the person in the passenger seat wanna your butt! LOL

What percent fuel dilution in the engine oil does your vehicle have, and how is it driven, idled?
Never had it tested it's just the nature if a direct injection/turbo engine. And I can smell gas when I drain my old oil ( at 5K miles and 50% oil life remaining). There is another post on here where someone showed their oil report with moderate fuel dilution. Can't remember the exact number.
It gets an even mix of city/highway and my wife usually drives it fairly aggressively, and when I drive it, probly once a week, I run it pretty hard.

I do not know my fuel dilution ratio. Its not idled for extended periods of time either. The wife takes it to work which is only a few miles away and does mostly in town driving. But she doesnt drive it hard. I try and open it up when I get a chance to.

The catch can is nice and all but not necessary.
