I usually see between 15-18 in mine. I have the 31 gallon tank. What I find funny, is that my wife's 2015 Toyota Highlander with a v6 gets less miles per gallon than my 15 year old 7.3l sometimes. In town, her car only gets 13-15 mpg.

If her Highlander is only getting that kind of mileage something is deffinately wrong. I get 20 - 22 MPG in my 4-Runner on a regular basis, and it is an actual 4WD ( with all of the extra weight ) not the "full time" design of the Highlander
I just got 13.98MPG on a hand calculated tank, running empty, mixed use, with a decent amount of remote start idling. I am running 160/30's with a 38R lifted a little on 305's. CC 4x4 short bed. I run hard and a bit heavy footed.
My truck gets 17 flat everyday driving and on a trip if I drive it smart it will get just over 20. This is calculated by what I put in the tank, not guess work. The trick for great numbers is easy throttle and not getting over 2K RPM at cruise.
2002 CCSB 4x4, all stock with only 43K on the clock.

Old green constantly gets 15-18 average for the usual everyday putting around. Winter blend makes a difference.
On the highway, old green can get 18-20 keeping it @ 2k rpm.
I've talked to a couple people that have 7.3's with low mileage that they literally never plan to sell. They exist, you just have to pry them out of their owner's hands.

That's the in town mileage when I'm driving it. It gets low 20's on the freeway. Nothing wrong with her car, it just doesn't get great mileage. Just kind of funny that my 8000lb brick gets better in town mileage.
