It's either REALLY cold, IMHO, or I think ( ?) I'd like to be running at that temp range, especially towing up 6%, even in winter at 6K ft. Even Not Towing!!. I know, I'm dreaming.
Mine with 167K runs mid range temp on level fwy Not Towing at 65-70. NOT like example shown.
At 2K on the Tach at 70 on open and variable road I average bout 15-16mpg. Thinking on cleaning the EBPV sensor and tube trying for mpg improvement. Varying input on that from a reliable source.

Other experiences on this are always edifying.

261,570. I bought it with 249,000 and put the engine from my 250 in it. Then engine has approximately 70,000 less than the body. I hope to keep it forever.

I used to get 500 - 550 miles on the trip meter before I hit 1/4 tank all the time.

That is before my clutch knee gave out and the 17's became so no way in heck I would want one. After getting a new truck that also has a 38 gallon tank, I'd be out of fuel before I hit 560 miles.

I get 15-16 on the road. Bout 12 around town. Probably stock injectors, new to me GPR 38 R, new to me bellowed up pipes.
Been thinking on cleaning the EBPV sensor and tube for a try to help the MPG.
The Brad tells me he did his for no help. I have 166K on mine so I figure it's not been cleaned out.
Anybody have further input on the EBPV thing.

I cleaned the EBP tube. No change in MPG. I replaced the EBP sensor. No change in MPG. I replaced the tube altogether, with the updated design too. Still, no change in MPG. (10 MPG @ 65 mph).

I've always viewed the EBP thing as "Yeah... it works for some - but not all". It's like the CPS - it has been the root cause of many woes, but you can't just tell everybody with a dead truck to replace the CPS and dust your palms off. Troubleshooting is needed, but it's good to start with known-working sensors.

Y2KW57 I didn't know you were having economy issues - and you with the factory OBDII reader. Have you started a thread - or has this already been resolved?

I think 10 mpg is normal for 4.88 gears and stock tires. All the instrument cluster photos above show the speedo needles at 65 mph and the tachs at 1,900 RPM. By contrast, my tach reads 2,500 RPM at 65 mph. The standard recommendation around here is to keep RPMs below 2,000. That is simply not possible with 4.88 gears... which are designed to keep the Powerstroke running at closer to peak developable horsepower, which Ford graphed at around 2,700 RPM, more or less.

With shifting and continuous operation constantly and significantly above 2,000 RPM, I have never expected to see the 17-20 mpg that some folks with 3.73 gears boast about. My double dam showed promise in fuel economy gains, but we are still talking mere tenths, not whole numbers. And a tire blow out destroyed the dam and fender, so I'm back to a single dam until sufficient funds are available for body work. It would be nice to see 12 mpg empty one day, but I don't think a PCM change or tune will make that happen.

Speaking of instrument cluster photos, it was nice to see so many early version gauge clusters with the small gauges gathered on the left hand side... which are much easier to see at a glance than the 2002 up clusters, where they split the minor gauges on either side of the speedo and tach.

If I behave I can push 18/21 city/Hwy. Which isn't too often.... so I am usually around 15/17

If this is about total miles, I am at 314K right now.

When my 2002 with ZF6 and 3.73 was new (odometer after break in 1500 miles) she did 20 MPG highway with the bed loaded and towing a full size car moving my little sister from Florida to Colorado. Typical speed 65-75.

Later 18 MPG highway 16 city @ 5200 ft. Pulling 4 horse and camping gear over the divide 16 MPG, and 4x4 low (RPM typically below 1800) 12 MPG - both of these from 9000 to 11000 ft.

One heck of a lot better than I ever got with a big block gasser.

At 185k she's giving 15 city, 17 highway - haven't hit the high four wheel drive roads in a while, so don't have numbers on that.

I'm fairly pleased, doubt the new diesels do any better!

Getting 15-16 if I stay between 50 and 53 mph. 1999 F450 4.88 gears. Just got a set of 4.10 cheap that I will install when I do my locker this spring.

UNBELIEVABLE mileage.

Towing? Or not towing?

Auto or stick?

Chip or stock PCM?

Stock tire size?

I know there is a very large mpg difference between 50 mph and 65 mph. Many of us remember when Jimmy Carter reduced the speed limit to 55 mph during the second money crises of the '70's (er ah, so called "oil" crises... but we obviously didn't "run out" of oil in the 40 years since as was previously predicted, despite a population boom and all of China trading in their ubiquitous bicycles for cars). And while the Carter Administration decision was very unpopular, it was based on sound science when viewed solely through the prism of fuel economy gain.

However, 15 to 16?

Not towing.
Stick ZF6 L,1,2,3,4,OD
PHP hydra 65 tow tune unless very slippery out.
stock 225-70-19.5 approx. 31.8"

Driving to and from work on 2 lane roads thru 2 towns with no stoplights until I hit the 3rd town that I work in. I shift into 4th around 30-32 mph. (4.88 gears)

I started a new excel sheet prior 4 tanks ranged from 15 to 16. same station same pump. I plan to run a few more tanks with the good driving habits and log.

Very nice, Brandon.

Assuming your "4th" as indicated on the stick is actually the 5th forward gear (including granny Low) on the zf-6, then that would match my 3rd forward gear in the 4R100, at 1:1 ratio. At part throttle, on flat terrain, when only lightly loaded, my 4R100 will kick into 1:1 at 30-35 MPH as well. And I always drive like an egg is under my foot. So it must be the color red? I've never seen 14 heading down hill with a tail wind. I'm very impressed.

I did the harpoon mod today. Truck was not completely empty when I filled up and held over 33 gallons. My good mileage with the extra fuel it now holds should show an impressive number of miles per tank.

I took out all of the bed bolts except the rearmost 2 which i just loosened and then just jacked up the front of the bed. Easy peasy.
