Condenser below voltage regulator

My '72 F-250 has a condenser below the v/r. Bullet connector between that and v/r harness plug was corroded and broken. I repaired it yesterday but wondering what it is for?
Going to 3g alternator later so just curious. I noticed no difference after reconnecting. Thanks all!

Radio noise. To help eliminate alternator whine through the radio.
