So I think my alternator took a dump on my 82 cf8000 dumptruck
I see online different alternators and my question is why do they range in amperage from 65amp to 225amp?
I'm confused as hell
this doesn't make much sense to me what is it that I need? Any info is greatly needed and appreciated

Normally low amps are no frills trucks. No A/C or any other optional electrical stuff. Larger engines require more battery power and can use some extra amperage to keep them up. Ambulances fire trucks and such have massive electrical equipment and use high output units. Your alternator should be marked as to what it is. Some L models about that year ate brushes but they could be replaced, on the truck, in just a few minutes. Ford blamed it on the add on A/C unit and would not warranty them.
