Alternator diode fails
My battery light onthe dashboard comes on and goes off ever so often. I took the truck to Advanced Auto and they checked the batteries and the alternator. The batteries were OK and the alternator only came up with a "diode fail". I have not been losing any voltage in my batteries over the past month. I guess that the batteries are getting charged.
My question is: Is the alternator "fixable? or Has anybody ever had this issue? Thanks!!

you should have the alternator fixed or replaced. bad diodes can hurt the battery while still charging them. you could get a whole new alternator or have it rebuild by a alternator shop. had mine done on 95 psd and it cost me about $90 i had no idea mine was bad except i installed amps and aftermarket radio and had engine noise.

ford has a prob with their 98-00 modle alts for some reason that I have noticed, mine and my buddys police cars had bad diodes and i have seen a number of trucks with bad diodes. they do and dont have the potential to harm your bats, just depends. I would go ahead and replace it
