Have a regen question that I would appreciate any insight on. I searched most of the forums regarding regen and wasn't able to find what I was looking for. I have a 2011 6.7L I bought used a couple of years ago. now has 139,000 miles. I love the truck but am now having an issue with the regen. Little background, last fall I had an issue with DEF (reductant/sender code) indicating the heater was bad. I changed the heater and the pump (primed)for good measure. Is was limping a bit during this duration. was able to get rid of the codes for this but then threw a code for bank 1 sensor 4 (EGT) I changed this and my power immediately came back, however, everytime I start the truck I get a "drive to clean exhaust filter" message. (I don't believe the truck has gone through a regen in a few months now.) As I drive a bit the message comes up "cleaning exhaust" so I am thinking GREAT. But, I have driven nearly 300 miles since then (normal work commute 40 miles each way on express way) and continually have both messages come up. I realize in regen your mileage drops considerably but my mpg is horrible now because I cannot either get the filter clean or stop it from regen. Any thoughts?
Maybe you need to enable the Exhaust Screen so you can see what the load of the DPF is. You can then watch to see if it drops any as you drive once it starts cleaning cycle.
The DPF is considered a consumable by Ford. It will need to be "cleaned" by one of the companies that do that or will need to be replaced if it can't be cleaned by driving the truck or a company's attempts to clean it.
Have you noticed your fuel mileage always low, and every time the truck gets up to temp, a new regen starts? Are there any other code or CEL? EGT12 sensor went bad on my 2011, and caused all this, but there was also a CEL with code too. Basically, when that sensor goes bad, the PCM thinks that the regen isn't working properly, because the temp inputs from that sensor are incorrect. without additional diagnostics, its only a guess however.
Dave, I used to get great mileage until I attempted to correct the EGT code for bank 1 sensor 4. Once I changed that and clear the codes, it is trying to constantly regen since then and my mileage is horrible....
Thank again everyone for your input. My issue has been resolved. My regen cycle was caught in a software loop. I had the computer re flashed, upgraded and everything is back to normal and no longer in regen. MPG came back and got 22 mpg highway into work today.
Happy camper again!
