Black Beauty finally gave up. Replaced battery, replaced fuel pump relay. Would only run with starter fluid sprayed into the air intake. She'll crank but not start. Here she sits at the dealership.
My EX got the same piggyback ride when my fuel pump died, but I had them take it to my house where I did the pump replacement, not too bad of a job actually.
Good luck with yours, keep us in the loop with the repair, (assuming fuel pump replacement?)
It's a V-10 that she has been chasing a hard starting / no starting issue on for a while now. Hopefully this trip to the doctor will set it right, here is the earlier thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-be-good.html
Fuel pump appears to have done the trick, to the tune of $1200.00 She is a 2000 V10, hard to realize that she is 17 years old. She's been everywhere with everyone!

$1200 to replace the fuel pump? Is that the going rate for that job?
$1200 for a fuel pump, Wow! I would love to see the dealer's price breakdown on that job.
Working with handtools on my back in the driveway I can have the gas tank pumped dry, dropped and away from the EX in about an hour. Swapping pumps takes 15 minutes and then another hour to put the tank back up in place.
If that's how your dealer is treating you, I would search out a good independent mechanics shop in you area. If all they did was a V-10 fuel pump that price is nothing short of highway robbery.

WOW. I couldn't sleep at night. as Tom said. its an easy job. I replaced my hitch, so the tank had to come down. I had it at work on a lift. a half hour to drop it, 15 minutes to swap fuel pumps and another half hour to reinstall. so lets round that up to 2 hours. even if the dealer padded the bill 3 hours max. that would be about $360 in labor. and maybe $400 for the pump (I got mine from my buddy that bought it for his X, then sold the X. new in box from Ford). So I don't know how much a new one would be, but I think my price is close!
