3000 mile trip

We went to Florida via the panhandle then to Disney World. Went thru storms high winds, high water. Overall we got 9.7 mpg towing our rig from Michigan. We are very happy how the rig handled all the good and bad roads and variable weather conditions.

How has your towing been?

Well, Dave, I am glad you had a great trip! Last summer when I went up north for the G2G I put about 7000 miles on, and yup....the meter showed 9.7 MPG when I pulled into my yard. Mostly ran 65-67 mph when speed limits allowed, some 55 in MN and WI. Great tow rig, these beasts are!

Recently when we upgraded from a 30 ft travel trailer to a 36 ft 5th wheel I logged the mileage from WI down to GA which was just under 2000 miles for us round trip. We logged 18.5 unloaded and 12 MPG loaded with the 5th wheel.

The truck and trailer details are in my signature.

I am a little jealous of ya'lls mileage - we get about 8mpg @ 24500lbs with a 6.0 PSD @75, nearly 9 @ 65. I've resolved to slow down - why am I in a hurry anyway?

I apologize for not stating my speed. I generally travel 65-68 MPH with or without the trailer. When I am in my truck, I am never in a hurry and just enjoy the ride.

January 2nd we pulled our nend 40 1/2' 16k 5th wheel from Pensacola, FL to Lake Guntersville AL, in severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings. We than drove to Charlotte, NC via hwy 64 through part of the Smokey mountains. A lot of up hill climbs. From Charolette went traveled to Columbia, SC, than to Atlanta, GA and home to Pensacola. Overall we got 9-9 1/2 mpg. I did get 10mpg until we got north of Birmingham. Some driving was with cruise, some with town haul and some with just using the pedal. Using the pedal was best for mountains. I did use tow haul on up grades and turning tow haul off going down hill and just coasting. Wirh using cruise, transmission would drop to 4th gear, than 5th until late I got to top and than 6th. Most of the time it was 6th gear dropping to 5th on large inclines. I think it's due to the 3.55 axel. Overall I was every pleased with the towing. I only had 2000 miles on truck when we started out. Hope to get better mpg on next trip

Sitting in Jackson Springs, NC right now. Not that far from home though. 11.2 on the mpg meter over 400 miles.

Been good weather, hi 60's.

When we went to Florida. It got down to 35 some nights with highs in the 50's. That was for 4 days then it finally went up to the 70's for the rest of trip. Was a little nippy to be outside those 4 days. But it got us out of the single digit highs here at home.

Our speed most of the way was 75 on I65 as if you ran any slower you was a hazard by blocking traffic.

My average over 15k miles towing is 11.4 pulling my 30' 5th wheel, total rig weight is 20k lbs. I try to keep it around 65 mph, mileage really drops over 70 mph.

I've done the FL-MI run twice now, we like the UP in the summer.

Yeah, and speed matters... Most of the time was driving 70 other than driving in the storms. When driving 63-65 is when we got 10+ mpg.

Stopped in Charlotte, VA for the night. I goofed and our reservations were over for today, so we hit the road.

Parked at a Sams Club for the night.

" Attention K-Mart campers....."

Don't feel too bad. When you goof the airline tickets and show up to the airport a day late, that's when you're officially an idiot.

Another Assistant Scoutmaster and I took a group of Boy Scouts on a High Adventure in Catalina Island. We drove from Denver to Long Beach. One of our stops was in a Grand Canyon campground and we pulled in at 11 pm expecting to be able to catch some sleep. It turns out he made the reservation for the wrong date. No big deal, we're Boy Scouts, so we found a spot nearby and roughed it. It was a backpacking High Adventure so we had all the gear necessary. Semper Gumby: Always Flexible.

However, I still don't let him forget about it.
