Got used motor to replace it with, thinking about doing some work on it before reinstall.
Got bellowed up pipes, injector o-rings, front and rear main seal, and will use best parts from both motors to make one. I'll also shim injector armatures back to spec.
Should I do injector cups too? What else is recommended to do at this time?
Both motors are 350k or so, I was on a budget at a moment and have to make it work with what I got.
I did cups on my transplant because the old sealant doesn't do ELC, and I've already done the whole cup fail thing once. I can tell you it's a whole lot easier on the stand.
Welded jets. I pulled mine, welded them, and thread-locked them back in place.
Just out of curiosity did you check out your oil cooler before yanking the motor? I believe a failure there will also cause coolant in oil & it's a heck of a lot cheaper to fix then putting a motor in

I doubt it was oil cooler, because oil pressure is higher than coolant pressure (25-60psi vs 16psi) so i would be getting oil in coolant reservoir. Some speculate that during cool down pressures switch places, and that can cause coolant in oil, so not 100% sure.
May want to remove oil pan and make sure the oil pick up is tight and not cracked. Could put a coat of paint on it if you live in the rust belt.
Just some suggestions since she is a little long in the tooth:
Oil cooler rebuild
Exhaust manifold inspection. Any signs of leaking or loose bolts especially on rear cylinders?
Oil pump and front cover inspection
Water pump
Reseal the whole engine and dont short cut on seals replace them all. You can still get coolant in the oil thru the oil cooler when the truck is not being used.
