I've got a 86 efi 302 with a 5 speed. That has been running absolutely awful lately. It's down on cylinders 3,4,7,8. Got spark and 50lbs of fuel at the rails. The only codes it threw that matters was 14. I got rid of my egr stuff a while back so it throws codes for that but the truck has been running great since I built the motor 5 years ago. It's got new msd cap and rotor and wires and msd ignition coil. I even tried a new stock coil no difference I replaced the ignition control module. The truck will start right up when cold but run really rough on 4 cylinders if you try and drive it will stall within 5 min and not start back up till motor cools. hours later. If it starts and you leave in neutral it will run very rough all day but will not restart after you cut it off.off. I'm beginning to suspect the pip in the distributor had anyone ever had symptoms like this. After I pulled the codes I disconnected the battery all night came out the next morning started the truck and checked codes again and the code 14 was gone but no difference in my truck [/QUOTE]
I was thinking that code 14 could be the problem but when I rest the computer and ran the truck again it didnot read the code 14 anymore. So it makes me wonder if code 14 still exist

Sometimes it takes a little while for the computer to decide it has a problem or not. They have a routine in the programming so it can try and troubleshoot itself, but it is not infallible. Since you reset it, it's re-grouping, it may take a little bit.
If it never comes back, then that may have been a code caused by something else and not the real problem. You also might want to wiggle the wires to the dist module around and see what happens. Those wires have a shield, and this shield has been known to get on some of the signal wires and short them out.
Yes, what Franklin says... my first thoughts were the same, the computer hasn't seen enough of the problem yet to alert you of it. But you should look at the surrounding things he mentions, bad connections and broken wires can cause these problems, too.
Sorry, I had to cut it up; But have a few questions;
Got spark (on all 8 ??)
new msd cap, rotor, wires (Make a difference??)
replaced the ignition control module (New??) (Make a difference??)
If you try and drive it will stall within 5 min and not start back up till motor cools, hours later. (Did it do this before the parts were replaced??)
If it starts and you leave in neutral it will run very rough all day but will not restart after you cut it off. (Did it do this before the parts were replaced??)
