I have a 91 ford f150 with a 5.0. Been trying to fix a stalling issue for a while now and every time I think it's fixed it starts having problems again. The only consistent thing is the code 14. We have replaced the distributor, tfi, coil, cap and rotor, and ignition switch. I have cleaned all the grounds i could get to under the hood and checked for power and good connection on all the ignition wiring. Please help I'm out of ideas.
you are in good hands with RLA, but he may or may not not be up to speed with your weird issue of stalling when the blower motor is turned off ... thus, it's best to stick to one thread for the same problem.
Oh....that one. That is very strange. I would suspect a missing body or PCM ground.
Bill (Subford) has some good info for where the grounds are on bricknose trucks. My documentation goes back to 1992 and I have learned the previous generation trucks tend to be very different.
I can point to where they are on a 1992 and up. But, I do not want to lead you astray. Given some time I may be able to find some old threads where Bill replied.
I hate to say this, but aftermarket parts (e.g. distributor / pickup) can provide those very intermittents you're experiencing. Could be totally unrelated to that code too - the 91's computer isn't that 'smart"
Do you happen to remember were base timing was set? Any "add on" electronics (e.g. CBs, radios, etc)?
The time I do not remember where it was set and the only add on at the time was a new radio. More has been added since. But there was a time when we would change out the horn or put on some fog lights or add whatever that the truck would go from running good to acting up. But after a while I kinda just blew that off as coincidence.
So Epicduck, explain to us what the truck is doing now? Do you still have to have have the heater fan on for the engine to run? When the engine quits, how long before it will restart?
Right now it is running fine I can turn everything off and on with no problems. So kinda afraid to mess with it right now especially with rain coming. Restarting can be from a day to four days. Seams like it may have a little to do with the weather.
