I know it was a pain in the *** to even get on, let alone remove it. It has some plastic prongs on each side of the tube that are holding it on. It was a very tight fit.
I remember this when I was forced to sell mine. After years of service, it's a little brittle and you want to be careful to not break it. I used two small flat-bladed screwdrivers - one on the top tab and one on the bottom. Once both tabs were "unlatched", I rocked the extension off.
