I have a 96 EB, with 98k on it, I was looking about getting these shocks for it. I don't take it out bogging, the only thing it is used for is an every day driver and to tow a boat and popup camper with. Is this a good shock to put on it ????
I'm not very farmiluar with that exact shock, but if it just a street drivin truck then monroe's gas charged truck/suv shock would be great, or gabreil's equvilant. DW
I have heard good things about this shock, and have read up on it quite a bit, as I am pretty sure these are what I am going to get for my Bronco. They are the same shock as the Rancho RSX (both made by Tenneco, with the same Reflex valve system,) with the exception of the shock piston is made of a different material, and the Rancho has a flexible dustboot built into the shock, plus I think the Rancho has a more durable finish.
I have heard people say that these shocks are not suitable for off-roading, due to the valve design, but I am not convinced, however I don't have any real world experience with this shock (yet!)
I've had the experience of selling the Reflex shocks and seeing the internals first hand. They are about the best shocks that you can get for any type of suv or van that will see use in towing or being loaded down. I do however agree that there are better alternatives for offroading. Going with the ranchos for the street would probably give a harsher ride than wanted. For on road, the reflex shocks are king.
I just put 4 of those on my 86 F150. I'm happy with them. I don't tow anything but I have a camper shell on the back. Drive mostly on-road and sometimes gravel roads. They are fine. $43 plus tax, and if you buy before 8-31-03 they will send you a $50 gift cert. for the store where you bought them.
Can't comment on the Reflex shocks but I would avoid their Sensa-tracs line. My limited experience with them isn't good. There are 6 of them on the truck I just bought. They clearly were not installed long ago. The spot weld gave up on the shrouding on one shock. Another shock is leaking like a stuck pig. Another shock appears to be starting to leak. 3 out of six isn't good. I doubt they are a year old. I can't comment on how the truck was treated for sure, but it looks like it was a suburban cruiser to me.
Before you buy if you want to step up to a better shock in my opinion try the Skyjacker Nitro shocks. I have them on the front of my truck and are extremely satisfied with them. In fact they almost handle as well as the KYBs I bought my truck with. Speaking of which if you have the money for the KYBs I would wholly suggest investing in them.
