62 battery hold down clamp

The thread re:66 battery hold down got me to thinking about my 62. I had a 62 Uni 20 years ago that had a hold down like one I've never seen before. It was just a short block, almost like a wedge, probably about 3" long. It had a hole through it and bolted to the bottom of the tray. There was a lip that stuck out of the side of the battery and this wedge held it down by the lip. I've never seen Numberdummy make mention of it when ppl ask ask about hold down clamps, so now I wonder if it was a stock part or not. My current Uni project has no clamp at all, and I really like the simplicity and innovation of this type.

Ever seen one before NumberDummy?

Not trying to jump in over ND, just thought I'd mention that I have seen the type you mention - in general - on some cars, trucks, etc. over the years.

Would look something more or less like this piece, but metal, and holds the battery by that little molded (into the battery itself) lip along the bottom edge that you mention. I think almost every battery has that lip on each side down near the bottom still.

Works great as long as the battery is big enough to fill the tray, otherwise if it is too small it can shift away from this sort of bracket.

I have had at least one car with that bracket - might have been my 1974 Toyota Celica GT.

I'll check the MPC later and see if there is a picture of that type and post that info if there is.

Upper pic: Notice the 10718 battery hold down.

There are two sizes of these hold downs, as the 55 amp battery (C5DZ-10718-A) is larger than the 45 amp battery (C2DZ-10718-A).

These two hold downs were used on misc. 1962/68 Falcon/Comet/Fairlane, 1965/68 Mustang, 1967/68 Cougar.

No truck used this type of hold down.

Lower (upper) pic: 1961/64 F100/250 2WD had the battery tray mounted to the firewall, notice in the pic the type of battery hold down.

As I recall, it looked almost exactly like this one. I never had an issue with my battery getting lose, but I definitely know what you mean.

Thanks Bill. Definitely not like the top picture, but that would probably work just as good as what I had. Since I can't get the original ford truck one, I guess it doesn't matter which one I choose.
