Hey everyone,
I have an 86 F150 XLT Lariat. I need a tailgate. Can someone give me a list of compatible tailgates, with or without modification, or a good place that I can reference this information? Thanks in advance guys!

 

Stylesides:

1983/86 is the same, use cables to support the tailgate when it's down.

1980/82: The R & L latches are made as part of the metal tailgate supports.

 

I put an 87 tailgate on my 84. The latches on the bed needed to be changed to a door striker style latch.

 

There's a guy parting out an 05 f350.. doubtful, but any chance this tailgate might fit?

 

I'm from Duluth, MN. THE PICKINS are slim at our local scrapyards for older f150s. Any ideas on a place near me that would have a used one?

 

I've never been to Duluth, but if you're only looking at F150's for a tailgate, be aware it fits more than just that.

 

Here's some places in Minnesota that say they have some sort of tailgate for sale.

Yes, this - can also look at f250s & F350s, same tailgate used.

From a 2005 would probably never work/fit right (easily).

And 1983 F100 .. as I said in post #6.

 

I "believe" up to a 96 would fit, body lines may be a bit off, and as stated, the latch system will be different.
LMC sells repops, and also NOS, I believe. I think they are still available from Ford.

 

OK... I forget about those things....

How about if we say: from F-Series of whatever he's generation he's looking at... F100 thru F350....

 

1980/91 Styleside tail gates are obsolete. I haven't looked to see if 1992/96 is available...or not.

There are 42 1980/82 tailgates available NOS .. 2 1987/91 tailgates available NOS .. But no Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any 1983/86 tailgates.

The repro's are made in China.
