Looking for a tailgate

Can you guys tell me what years and models will work for a tailgate for my '86 F-250? All I've got is a cheapo fifth-wheel tailgate, and I'd like something more substantial.

There's somebody near me who has one from an F-150 he says will work on an '87, but I wasn't sure it would work on mine.

Also, what's a good price for a used tailgate?

the f-150 tailgate will work. I believe 1980-1997 will work, body lines might be slightly different

You will need a tailgate off a 1980-86 model. 87-97 model will NOT fit as those used cables and the hinges are different.

At least IDI parts will help save another IDI

I've gotten parts from many different trucks, all half tons. lol

Like my mint condition tailgate, came off a super cab 1990 F150. Never seen winter or any use judging from the condition of it, original paint, not a scratch on the back side.

I originally offered 100$ just for this tailgate, but the gentleman also had a fifth wheel gate (same nice blue color), a LUND sun visor and big deflector all for sale, he asked me if I was sure I didn't want anything else, I said not really, he said well, give me 150$ and take everything! What a deal I scored on that one! the 1 and a half hour drive was worth it!

86 and older uses a different latch system from the 87 and newer tailgate, and the two can not be modified to work on each other without a lot of work.
