Tailgates
Today i bought a used tailgate i think it came off a 86. My truck is a 89 and the tailgate uses a striker that looks like a door striker but the new tailgate uses plate that hits the latch then it closes? Does anybody know if those latch plates are welded on or bolted i need to get some and was wondering if anybody knew where i could get them or if i just have to make my own. Thank you. Also could i just remove my latches off my 89 tailgate and use them on the 86 tailgate? Would i just have to take the tailgate handle off to get the rods out?

I could be totally wrong on this but I am not sure you can get the new gate to fit into your 89. 87-96 had a different style of gate. I have a 90 and the latches have torx head screws holding them in. Someone more experienced will chime in soon I am sure. Good luck.
