Ford C4 transmisson problems

I have a 351w hooked to a C4 auto trans in a 87 ford crown vic (not a truck but i need help please) and im having problems with it, when i start the car and put it into drive and give it gas some times it wil engage and go normally and sometimes it will just sit there and rev and if i shift it into park and back into gear sometimes it will move and sometimes when i drive it and when i let off the gas then give it gas agin it will just rev again and not engage, ill be going maybe 5mph and let off the gas and when i get back on it it will rev and i will have to stop and shift it into park and back into gear a few times to get it to engage, and sometimes when i put in gear and it revs and not engages if i pump the gas a few times while its still in gear it will engage and move can anybody help me fix this thanks

Your 1987 Crown Vic does not have a C4

1982 LTD, 1983/89 Crown Victoria with 302 or 351W came with AOD

1981 was the last year the C4 was available in the LTD (302 only), but most 1980/81's had either AOD or FMX

1980/82: LTD .. Name changed to Crown Victoria in 1983.

AOD is shot, time for an overhaul. The 7B164 fiber clutches are burned, as is the fluid, probably the bands.

The AOD is a problematic trans that is very expensive to fix.

I'll take a good guess the throttle valve cable came in hooked. Even if it didn't still sound like a rebuild. Although it's on 87, still not a cheap rebuild. Expect to pay atleast $1200.
