*sigh*...just wrote a long post discussing trade, imports, and competition. Then realized I was part of the problem, not the solution. Let's get back on topic, please...the OP wanted to discuss resale value of the 2017 Super Duty.
Public Service Announcement: We are NOT turning this political. Starting to have that feel with the recent political climate, and we're not talking about that here. This is a truck forum.

It's not the foreign products that are the problem. Innovation and fair competition are the lifeblood of capitalism. It's the foreign government's intervention that makes competition unfair. For example, if we export our products and are charged enormous duties by the foreign government it is not fair if the imports from that same country are not charged an equal tariff. Same with currency manipulation to constantly favor one country's export/import balance. All things being equal I believe American workers can compete just fine with any other workforce in the world. But it's not that simple and it never has been. We may be on the cusp of finally having trade policies which level the playing field. It's the first time in a long time I have been hopeful about so many things. Meryl Streep, on the other hand, takes her own comforts and privilege for granted and is not happy.
I think that the OP may be wise to hang onto his Ram for a while if it isn't giving him any problems. If Fiat/Chrysler does drop an Italian engine in the Ram trucks, his Cummins powered truck may just take a little bump in value. I could see a case where people start coveting the Cummins powered trucks. A nice low mileage Cummins could bring a premium.
In fact, RAM already has an Italian engine...the Ecodiesel.
That would be a mistake if Fiat did decide to convert all RAM trucks to Italian engines.
I don't know how much better the possible replacement engines would be, but I don't think the market would care; RAM owners seem to take a lot of pride in the Cummins engines. I have seen far too many RAMs around here with proud Cummins badging all over their truck, and they're trucks with the older, pre-Cummins engines!
But, I doubt that would happen. FCA is probably smart enough to make the connection.

I'd be willing to bet RAM would be selling a lot more half-ton diesel trucks if there was a C on the door.
Unfortunately for them, Cummins was basically offering them the 5.0L V8 diesel which is heavy, loud, not particularly power and not particularly fuel efficient.

Yes, the V-8 Cummins was less than impressive and Ram passed on it, however, Nissan grabbed it up and they are having a grand ole time with it. Everyone seems impressed with it. Is it the performance,,, or is it the "C" on the fender?

I disagree. None of the automotive press has been impressed with the Titan XD, Cummins or Nissan V8. Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and TFL Truck.
The Nissan diesel is expensive and cannot tow or haul as much as an F150, and does not get good fuel economy and is slow. RAM has been vindicated in their decision to pass on the 5.0 by the Titans failure.

I test drove one of the diesel equipped Nissan Titan XD trucks and I was not that impressed with the power. It was quiet and it got down the road but not that quickly. The early reports on that engine said it would get almost 30 MPG on the highway. Actual ratings when it was release were far less than that.
I recently read about a contest that was held down in Texas where the Nissan Diesel had won last year. The new 2017 Super Duty only barely squeaked by it to win this year. I apologize, but I cant remember where I read that story. I just couldn't believe that the Nissan Titan did that well considering how advanced the new Super Duty is. I've not been impressed with the Nissan. They are bringing top dollar. At one local Nissan dealership they had one that had a MSRP of $72,000. When I asked how much they actually sold for the dealer said $72,000. A few days later the truck was sold,,, for MSRP. I couldn't believe it. These people must be hypnotized with by the "C".
We're a Ford forum, but we aren't that kind of Ford forum. If you're posting to bash without bothering to answer the question please don't bother posting.
Ummm sorry ....only the op's second post in this thread even mentions a Superduty, no offense was intended rather a lighthearted poke.
