I have wanted a super duty ever since 1999 when the first model rolled out, but I can not figure out how you guys can afford the price tag, the new 6.7 is not helping matters at all, but i do not see any way to afford this vehicle. I really have no need for such a beast in my fleet of old classic ford trucks, but I am just wondering how many people have the super duties just because of the diesel and how sweet they look, because that is about the only reason I want one of these trucks, so how many of you guys actually have a need for these trucks or how many just have them because they can and how do you justify the payment
i used to work with a guy that bought a dodge diesel mega cab when they first came out. $700 a month payments. i thought the same as u.he doesnt tow anything and he's a single guy who keeps to himself, why the hell would he need the mega cab and a diesel?
Well my 2008 is my second diesel. After having extended cab and single cab trucks, I would never have anything but a Crew Cab. I guess the fact that I am 28 years old, not married and don't have any kids is how I justify my $700.00 payment. LOL. Plus I wanted something I could have a family with and haul around. I have a 23 foot boat that weighs 7200 lbs and a 67 Bronco with a flatbed trailer. Both of which I "could" tow with a F150 but I am the type of guy who would rather have too much truck that not enough.
If funny but this is about the cheepist thing for me to own. I bought used and traded a truck that I was not wild about off.
Its hard for me to beat free oil changes, free fuel (sometimes), spare parts galore with easy access. I have no real use for a truck of this size, I dont even own a trailer. the payment went up $50 from my gasser... so not to bad on that end.
I tow a 20' gooseneck with up to 14k pounds of cows in the back. The F250 is a must for me on my farm. Sometimes haul them 1000 miles or more in a trip - the truck is strong enough that you often forget they are back there.
i don't have a problem with people who buy new diesel trucks and actually use and need their power and strength. what gets me is the grocery getters and soccer moms in diesel excursions or like i said a single guy with a diesel mega cab. overkill man. but i guess if you can afford it do what you want
These trucks are expensive, that's not a lie but so is a nice F-150.
I'll break-in my ordered SC XLT, cloth seats on one of my tree farms.
But it will also be my daily driver and I'll admit simply liking diesel engines was all part of decision making. No way I would take a King Ranch "off-road/on the farm" though; too nice for me.
Now I can bring something a little heavier than a shovel...with hydraulics and an engine.
Especially when beavers are out to get land owners by taking out soft dirt roads!
You can't beat the resale value on a Super Duty. Go buy a gasser and lose 10K driving it off the lot. Buy a Diesel and take good care of it, and it doesn't cost you much to drive it compared to the depreciation on a gasser. I started off with a used one and worked my way up to a new one after I saved some money up to put down on a new one. I also was able to get $11,000 off a new one. I pay $325 a month for a 2010 F350.

Saving is the way to do it. I left that part out.
I was ready to get one several years ago and I forced myself to save for it. It works much better that way.
This statement may get me run off this forum, but here lately I was contemplating getting a Tacoma, for me it would probably suit my needs and then some for my situation, it would be nice to have the room of the superduty, my wife has an 07 explorer, but for me I have a 96 Nissan pickup reg cab that has 264000 miles on it and I haul me and my two boys around in and they are 8 and 5, the old beater gets almost the same looks that a 2011 superduty would when one is spotted goin down the road for the first time, people just look at us, smile and shack their head and everytime i see certain people they ask me "so how many miles you got on that thing now". It has become almost a status symbol for me, in a different kind of way I guess. I always knew when I bought the truck I would never have it this long, but life happens and here comes the wife and kids and there goes my new truck, anyway I am not on here to boast about "The Nissan" as it is referred to around the house, but I can't complain it has served it's purpose, but my 8yr old told me today that if I fixed anything on the truck it would quit working. I am a ford man at heart and have several old dentside fords, and was raised in a ford family, when i brought home the Nissan my dad didn't talk to me for 2 weeks and he made me park out by the road, maybe that is why it has lasted for so long. If I knew for sure i could get that many hassle free miles out the 6.7 I would just about have to get one and never look back, and I hope ford has really done there homework on this one, the one thing that bothers me is the manufacturers getting away from letting people do routine maintenance anymore, and yes i understand the warranty and service revenue scenario plays into that, but I don't even have an easy way to check the trans fluid on my wifes explorer without getin under the vehicle, and that bothers me because I am an aircraft mechanic by trade and have restored vehicles in the past, i guess i just like keeping a check on things and srvice my own equipment myself, sorry for all the ramblin but thought yall might get a kick out of my little story,
Keep up the good work on the forum, and good luck to ford on the new diesel, and hopefully one day the card will fall to were i can swing the big payment like you all and I promise you all will here from me when that happens. Let the black smoke roll

I'm probably one of those guys who fall into that category of "to much truck". I have always wanted the best truck I could afford. I have plowed and towed with all my trucks.I also know I can get away with a F250 gasser but I choose not to.I always like leavin myself with plenty of options. I thought about this last purchase for a long time. First off I have never bought a 1st year engine, and I dont really need a new truck my 05 is in great shape but I ordered one anyway. I love the look and functions of the 2011, just worried about the power plant behind it. But hey you only live once....
yeah i left out the part that i was in high school working at wendys full time making 400 dollar a month payments on a big block 1ton on 40 inch boggers. maybe too much truck is just enough truck. cuz for the way i drive a half ton on 33's would be fine but no where nere as cool to me as my truck, and plus chicks dig it.

So we cant use our trucks for truck things, then go shopping with our trucks? why cant I go shopping? You do realize that EVERYONE that owns an Excursion will go to the grocery store at some point right?
Most people cannot afford one either, yet they buy anyway. I bet your grandparents would never even think about buying something that was of excess. These days people are so spoiled and clueless as to what an economic depression is that they continue to live as if they are millionaires. Don't be foolish and buy something that is not of absolute necessity even if you find it "cool". The economic collapse has only started. If you really want one wait a few years and buy used. You will be able to buy one for very cheap as people will not be able to pay for the fuel costs.
