4x4 Conversion question
im interested in learning about this conversion the motor in my frankenford is just about dead (it seen lots of abuse from p/o over the yr 1/2 I got A.O.D rebuilt and beefed up $2600 and replaced rebuilt a 93 ttb $1600)
my truck is mostly a 1990 5.0 supercab short box aod 4x4 and with the motor being guttless foam from the c.c breather leak from every where and alot so over weekend I picked up a 1990 5.0 supercab short box aod rwd to do a motor swap
180xxx km old man owned started bumping into things and stopped driving parked it so it got some dings and dents not sure how long it sat I got it from from a back country wreckers who got it from an estate sale after the old fella past away ive been driving it a bit it seems like a good runner although on maiden trip home I took off in drive cruised 80km the 1st bit then put it O.D and nothing but runs great in drive shifts good smooth but all in all I figure time is against the 2wd aod over all I think the truck is in pretty good shape motor seems strong doesn't creak pop and bang when twists up at the curb at the end of my driveway
my 4x4 was well abused by the p.o ran 35's and wheeled hard a tree fell on it it was run into a tree (80 front clip on it) ive been throwing money at hand over fist creaks and pops and bangs when twisting up but I stated the trans. and ttb are pretty much brand new on it
over all the new truck is in better shape then my old truck plus lariat over my old truck's custom trim
instead of swapping engines I can swap trans and axles im on the fence on what to do I would have to rent a machine or somthing to do the motor my shop is the great outdoors in the parking lot and I got a buddy who is willing to help on the weekends but does have alotta knowledge but I have got a few swaps under my belt
I have been doing some research most folks doing this swap source out the parts from different units and run into drive shaft length issues but its looking like the ttb will bolt in place of the I-beams
I was taking a quick look at the frames side by side and the only difference that I see the R.arm brackets are the same on both trucks but the 4x4 trans. cross member drops down lower and the rear spring set up is a bit different but I imagine thats due to diff. rear spring rating
to my understanding as long as rwd and 4x4 f 150's are matching body length and matching components it will be bolt to bolt swap with no modding but f250/350 will take need the custom touch and not easy
