Temp Sensor For 3-4 Shifting.

I put a grill cover on to keep temps up in the cold. The temperature sensor for the inside display is obviously behind the cover because it's no longer accurate. So it makes me wonder if that sensor is used for anything else, like the 3-4 trans shift when it's below a certain temp?

I doubt it, I have an XL without the temp sensor so it must use one somewhere else. Enough temp sensors around this motor!

I doubt it also, I would sooner think that the oil temp sensor dictated the transmission shift (for a couple of reasons) 1 being that the oil would be the last thing on/in the engine to reach temp and 2 being why would we have an oil temp sensor in the 6.0 but no gauge for it to send a read out to? As far as the inside temp read out it is most likely ahead of the engine and behind the grill somewhere that the air flow thru the radiator don't effect it. jmho

That sensor isn't used by the engine or the transmission.

Awesome. Didn't think so but nice to hear it from an authority on the subject.
