I have an 2006 Escape 3.0L 4X4 with the abs light on constantly and occasionally the 4WD light comes on . The last time this happened it was a front tone ring but it doesn`t seem the same because the 4WD is working fine. I did smack the rear passenger side tire on a curb before this happened so i imagine thats the cause. Brakes also seem too work fine. If i need to replace a tone ring anyone have a part number ? Or could it be an ABS sensor ? Thanks in advance for any replies or advice.
Bumping a curb shouldn't cause an ABS failure.. I wouldn't think.
I would pull the suspect wheel and inspect the sensor wiring and the ring itself. Verify the alignment of the sensor and the ring and that the ring cannot be physically moved easily (don't force it, but a decent push with your thumb to see if it's loose).
Also, see if a piece of debris got stuck between the sensor and ring.
I`m unable to check anything till i can get in my cousins shop on Monday. I was thinking if it is the ring/ sensor i could pick up the parts on my way there. Definitely worth looking at before getting the parts . Thanks
When you bumped the curb you perhaps spilled air from the tire causing the rolling radius on that wheel to be different enough that the ABS and 4WD logic thinks something is wrong as it sees a different wheel speed on that corner from the other 3 wheels. Check tire pressures and correct as necessary and I'll bet both problems go away...
It`s a possibility but i didn`t notice any difference in the tire when i did check it. I will check the pressure in that tire. Thanks for the suggestion.
