Yes,I spoke with him today.Very helpful. I would like to keep my engine combo very common so to speak. If the rubber comes out of the harmonic balancer, its a discontinued item. It is a low production number critter.
It isn't just the harmonic balancer but also things like Pistons rods heads flexplate if you're running an automatic. I know that when a person has the time and money you can track things down but I prefer to have something that can be repaired with readily available parts. I previously have only own one 7-3 IDI and regret every day selling it. But I never had to work on it so I didn't become familiar with the engine.
Harmonic balancer in the flywheel ? So do you think it is best to keep these stock ?
So to have parts made would cost a fortune ? Somebody else on this site said it was a problem child because of parts. I like it a lot better than my other NA IDI....
I didn't check much into the aftermarket. But it's such a limited production run there's doesn't seem to be much out there unless you're going to cough up the money for brand new and I am tight lol
Not saying parts arent out there. But I like to keep it simple and want a more common combo.I will strip the turbo setup and get rid of the leftovers.Id rather have a spare na motor that is more common
I have purchased another idit from craigslist.I only got to hear it run briefly.I was installed in an early ford, like a 77 or 78.Fired right up.I am going to use it to turbo my na engine. If anyone has a na 7.3,maybe do some trading for the turbo long block minus what it takes for the swap.I definitely trust the fellow i purchased it from.No stories or bs.I dont know miles, only that it runs.I am only interested in a na swap. Not concerned w accessories, but must be complete otherwise.I will be back in ohio sometime next week..sadly.
Why not just use your IDIT, put new pistons in it, and then have it balanced... with a NA harmonic balancer and flywheel.
This way you get the best of both worlds - common balancer and flywheel, a balanced rotating assembly, and the higher-strength connecting rods and pistons.
I mean, at that point, the /only/ turbo-specific parts are the connecting rods, and chances are that if you break one of those the block is toast as well...
I dont want to get away from simplicity or the budget I laid out.I wish I would have done my homework before committing to these engines( idit). Now 2 of them eating garage space.I had planned on purchasing a turbo setup anyway,so not wasted money.I honestly thought all 7.3s were the same.
Do you have a spare turbo ?, I have a IDI that is like new that I have not decided what to do with it... It is obviously rebuilt and has no blow by at all.
Real..sorry about late reply.Stuck on location longer than planned.Havent been home to lay out my project yet.Hope to get back soon to get to work on this next week.I might install a lift in my garage, little old to lay on a creeper anymore. LolI will let you know.
