engine number

I have a '52 F6 with a flathead six I am led to believe that it is the 254C.I.D. "BIG SIX" where on the engine can the serial # be found and what is the color those engines where painted THANKS richbanaszak@yahoo.com

Look on the head and the side of the block for a casting number with either an "H" (226) or an "M" (254) in it. The block will be something like M-6010, the head M-6050.
