Engine Serial Number

I found 68 302 block on Craig's list and pick it up for 50.00, the guy I bought it from told me it's been in his garage for 15 years and didn't have any info on it.

Can I get some help Interrupting the serial number?

Serial Number: C90E-6016-C (First line)
9J12 (second line)

Thanks!

The engine is a 1969 out of a Failane or Torino. It was built on the 12th of September, 1969. Hope this helps.

Sorry, that is incorrect.

The O in the casting number doesn't mean the engine block is for a Fairlane, Torino, or anything else specific. The O is foundry related. According to the Ford car & truck parts catalogs, the same C9OE block was used from 1969 through 1973, so it could have been used in: Galaxies, LTD's, Fairlanes, Torinos, Mustangs, Falcons, Mavericks, Montego's, Comets, Cougars, F100/350's, Bronco's, and Econolines.

Casting numbers do not convert over to part numbers.

Another casting number example: C6ME. This is the casting number for a bare block 390 or 428 engine. The M in a Ford part number refers to Mercury, but not in a casting number.
