Barnstable County built a maintained several brush breakers on Cape Cod over
the years. The first brush breaker was built in 1939 on a Ford cab over chassis.
It had a Marmon Harrington all wheel drive transmission and was built by
Robinson Boiler Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
County No.1 had an 85 hp flathead Ford motor, 125 gpm pump, and carried 1000 gallonsof water with a road speed of 30-40 mph. Old Barnstable County No.1 served in Gay Head (Aquinnah) on Martha's Vineyard
after finishing service on the Cape.
Love to have any of these for sure.

I'm Seattle native but Dad's work moved our family to southeastern Massachusetts in 1967 when I was 14. I spent a lot of time at Maynard fire Appartus in Marshfield and they were heavy into brush breakers. Much of the things I love, 4wd big trucks, old fords etc I attribute to the guys that worked there. About a six man crew and they all had nick names. I wish I could have worked there but small family businesses of that sort went out it the 70s as they couldn't compete. Great to see all these Cape Cod town names. My folks had deep roots there. Awesome photos.
That last picture of the Bourne #8 truck is an F-4. It, and a school bus that survived and was recently sold, are the only examples I've found of F-4 models converted to AWD by Marmon-Herrington. Stu
