Grover and I have been having a lot of fun lately.
I finally got the water pump situation worked out back in February, and except for a front brake that likes to grab every once in awhile, Grover's been doing well as a daily driver, even if I CAN only go 50 mph!
I substitute teach, and it goes without saying that my students (who are primarily farm boys) have noticed the truck. Once we get past "What year's the old truck?" or "Didja drive the old truck today?" it's not unusual to enter into a conversation either about what I should do with Grover or what they are doing with their trucks. (Anything but the lesson, of course!) They've talked me into spinning the tires a couple of times, but the last time I did it I realized it was clutch adjustment time, so I've declared a temporary moratorium on such juvinile behavior.
I'm hoping that as a teacher I can convince them that Ford trucks are much better than C-word trucks.
It's great to hear they enjoy old trucks! I teach as well and drive my "farm truck" every day, on sunny days I ride an older Harley. Totally fun to share the love of old vehicles with young people....And fun to give the C***Y guys a hard time! My bikes name is Alice (like your Tempo)...
Don,
I haven't seen you around in awhile. Glad that things are going great and you and Grover are having a blast.
You got to be careful with spinning the wheels for the lads, pretty soon they expect you to do it every time they see you (Its a good thing I've matured past such juvenile behavior) --((I couldn't even keep a straight face while I typed that))

Bobby
You'd think that at the age of 47 I'd be too old for such behavior! Be that as it may, my age has not lessened my desire to do something like put a three-duece setup on Grover.
Of course, I GOTTA get rid of that 4.86 rear end first. Hopping it ain't any fun if cruising speed is still only 50 mph!
I am adjunct faculty at two local colleges myself. Its a blast to drive the old trucks to school. Even the Ch**y crowd gets all excited. The students love it, but I don't enguage in such childish behavior (at least not in front of them-innocent smilie here!).
Now...I just need to get my truck going again. LOL
When I was a kid there was a teacher who drove a model A every day to school (and, hey, Im not that old) We thought it was very cool... The kids at school like my 56, but when the visiting teams come in for a game from the smaller towns around here, they appreciate it much more than the "middle class" urban kids where I teach...

One of my teachers drove a 64(?) barracuda to the high school. It was stock and she bought it new. Her hubby had a mid 60s mercedes he let her drive sometimes too. This was where I live now. Its sort of rural I guess.
When I was in junior high one of the teachers had a 56 crown vic she drove a lot. That was in a bad part of town in a city too.
I had a Jr. High Scince teacher who drove a sweet '69 Boss 302. Then he went to the dark side and got a Vette. He never was the same. Never found out where the Boss ended up.
In highschool we had a substitute teacher who made his own cars... and I don't mean he just built them.. He designed them, made the frame, designed and made the body panels, everything.. They were kind of ugly.. but I'd never tell him that, I was too impressed that he designed them and made them himself!
About getting noticed.. mine is in pretty bad shape, but its drivable. I still get a lot of looks and thumbs-ups. It could be a rust bucket, but as long as it has the shape and it doesnt sound like a screetching, rattling, coffee can, it'll be awwed over.
I work at the Arkansas school for the Blind, where we have a pretty well-equipped auto bay. Some of the less vision impaired students really enjoy working on vehicles, particularly the renovation of interiors. The joy of firing one up for the first time is infectious, and when it is handicapped kids, it is heaven.
Every homecoming, we have a parade down the streets adjacent to the campus. It has become a really popular neighborhood event, with the student drum corps, cheerleaders, and general slow paced tomfoolery going on.
This coming year we will have a 1930 Model A Town Deluxe, a 1950 Plymouth, a 1959 Ford Panel truck, a 1963 Falcon, and a 1973 stretch Cadillac limo, all with restoration partially done by the students of ASB.

ps. I'd like to see some pictures of Grover.
I need to take some pictures of him. I may have a couple from Scout Camp last year. If not, I'll be sure to take pictures this year. I have been known to haul our troop's gear (yeah, I'm a Scouter, too) in Grover when speed has not been of the essence.
My truck is beat up, and a long way from restored, body-wise. However, I have him running pretty good, which is what matters most right now.
Grover sounds a lot like Chester, beat up, long way from restored. The bed isn't on right now so I am not hauling ANYTHING around haha. Chester is an F-250 also.. a 55. Used to be a wrecker.. they hacked off a foot from the back.. I'm currently trying to fix that problem.. I'd like to completely replace the bed but they are hard to find.
