Rough idle when cold starting

Rough idle when cold starting
I have a 2006 f350 6.0L, truck has 200 000km on it, it runs good except during cold starts, at -20 celsius or cooler, doesn't happen if its plugged in. It starts but it sounds and feel like its running on half the cylinders, truck shaking, then after 20 seconds it runs fine? What could this be? I wanna fix this as this truck gets me to my ice fishing destinations! Thanks for any advice

Top ten answers:
- Oil, look for 5w40 Diesel Full Synthetic or better
- Injector Stiction, you could add Archoil 9100 or other brand to the oil and give it about 5000 miles
- Worn out LPOP low pressure oil pump, not able to suck up cold oil as easily, LPOP oils your bearings and lifters
- Worn out HPOP high pressure oil pump, indirectly fed by the LPOP and again not liking cold oil either, seals not liking the cold oil, scanning tool required to see IPS PSI
- EGR Valve could be dirty, remove and clean
- low or aging batteries can lead to damaged components, if your voltage is low then as Ed would say "FICMs are killed" by low voltage, it is the FICM power supply board that dies off quickly and you hope there is no damage to the logic board - Ed @ FICMRepair.com, have the batteries tested regardless of age, scanning tool or voltage meter required to diagnose FICM
- FICM Power Relay worn, not happy when cold but settles as it warms up, mine did this but I only saw the issue with a scanning tool
- Glow plugs, might be time to replace glow plugs and the wiring harness for the glow plugs
- remotely, ICP/IPR not happy and potentially dirty
- remotely, poor quality fuel, or gelling, or fuel filters
- remotely, injector seals not liking the cold oil
The motor is controlled by sensors and computers, the only way to diagnose is to be able to view the codes as determined by the computers and the values generated by the sensors. Otherwise flying in the blind. Plug it in until you have Scangage II or other popular device.
I use ODBLink MX WiFi with an iPhone, very pretty UI but only connects once the motor is running, kind of worthless for a Crank No Start situation but luckily not a problem yet.

Copper hit two easy fixes
5W40 synthetic diesel rated oil, Delo preffered by many but your choice of course
Archoil 9100 along with aforementioned oil at change
My bet would be you will notice the change after a 50 mile drive, on your next cold start.
You have a later build, odds are the HPOP is fine.
Would not hurt to check for any glow plug codes.
