Hood insulation. Makes a big difference. Also, dynamat the doors if you haven't already done so. Road noise from tires is a big one. Dynamat in the doors does help that out. It has been my experience that dynamat is great for vibration noises. Foam is best for other noises like engine noise, etc.
So I guess I am just not as cool as you are, because nobody has touched my posting on this.haha. I posted it in the clutch section though, so maybe that is it. I figured if I posted it in here it would get moved.
But I am the friend he is refering to. And I am pretty sure my dual mass is on its way out, and am wanting to figure this out too before I change it. I have that rattling noise I read mentioned on here. I have read many people on here drive on it for years like this, but it's not something I want to do. Any help on this thread would be greatly appreciated as he is not kidding on the noise level. It is so loud in his bronco, that you can barely hear the person sitting next to you. It is impossible to hear the people in the backseat. I would be ok with going with a single mass based on all the benefits I have read, but because of how loud his is inside the cab, that is currently enough for me to stick with a new dual mass setup. Not trying to jack this thread, but I figured since I am the person he is referencing, I would join in.

Personally I would not install a new dual mass flywheel. I have converted at least 5 trucks to the single mass, and only had the gear roll over noise on 1 truck, and that was putting around the pasture in low gear. By gear roll over I'm talking about sounding the tranny has a handful of marbles in it. I'm betting that Bubba Jones has a clearance issue with his down pipe. That sound can travel quite a distance, and can be disturbing.
So I'm pretty sure I found my issue. The driver side up-pipe is squished against the firewall pretty hard right where there is a little lip. I'm not sure how I'm going to bend that out of the way though because it's super hard. When I try prying it, it just moves the engine forward instead of the firewall back. I think I'll try and use an air chisel to chisel away at that section.
First I have to figure out why my truck died on me though... Hopefully it's just the fuel pump.
I smashed that 'lip' back with a porta power. You'll have to have the DP out of there to do that. I placed boards against the engine and trans and pushed the lip back.
Is it going to be difficult to get the up pipe out in the drivers side? Do you think I can get the up pipe out with the engine in still? If so then I may try and tackle this this weekend.
I have to get my truck running before I do too much though. There was an e fuel kit someone was selling off their truck locally I wish I grabbed but now I'll have to buy a new kit online. That's all assuming my fuel pump failed and switching to e fuel will fix my truck!
