Finally installed my new FoMoCo water pump I bought a couple years ago after snooping around with my new inspection camera and finding the telltale trail out of the weep hole. Only problem is a slight leak at the billit stat housing as I didn't have a new gasket for the 203 thermostat (stat is only a few months old) and even put a dab of water pump sealant on but still leaked. I'll head out to O'reillys tomorrow to see what I can get.
I also changed the idler pulley and the tensioner. I got the USA made Dayco tensioner but I noticed it is a good bit smaller than the OEM, anyone notice that?
The fan nut was a buggar till I remembered my home made pulley holding tool. I made that in a barn with a cutting torch and a grinder 2,500 miles from home when I had to change the pump on my old 6.9 about 25 years ago. Just flipped it over and drilled/cut to fit the 7.3. Not pretty but a lifesaver.
Nothing wrong with homemade Tools! Necessity is the Birth of Invention. Sure beats the Mortgage I paid the Bread Trucks over the years!

I used Black RTV on every T-Stat housing I ever worked on with no come-backs (on those anyway )
I don't believe the Tensioner Pulley being smaller is in any way an issue. So, Long as the Spring is in Good Shape.
I carried a spare with me for travel in Mexico hence the storage time.
One thing that concerns me is RTV getting into the coolant passages of the oil cooler.
Well I gave up the billit housing and went back to the OEM stamped steel. The billit looks nice but I can't stand leaks and I don't want to keep putting silicone where it can get into the coolant and the oil cooler. New o ring, OEM housing, no sealant, 110 inch pounds, no leaks.
I love my 203 stat in the winter but not so much in the summer so I plan to change it semi-anually, no sealant will make it simpler.
Interesting about the billet housings not sealing properly. I've had mine for a number of years after the stock stamped housing got warped and started leaking. I'll have to look at mine to see if there's any issues.
The billet housing on my truck and new water pump started leaking about a year after installation. It was an easy fix though, I put a very thin film of sealant on the outer surface area of the pump, let it sit for 5 minutes, then remounted the billet housing. It has been water tight for 2 years now.
