Ok so my question is, on my 1982 Ford F100 Stepside 4.9 300-6cyl. It is missing the smog pump, it was like that when I got the truck and I have never replaced it. So how much will that effect my carbulation? Does my carb need readjusted to make up for no smog pump? It doesn't seem to be running bad, but I do get terrible gas mileage. Does this effect my gas mileage? And is there a certain adjustment the carb should be at because it is missing the pump. Any help will be apparicated thanks. Fred
Not 100% about your I6 but generally the smog pump only adds extra air to the exhaust so it has no effect on your tuning or intake mixture.
There are a lot of posts here about maximizing I6 fuel economy and most of those posts start by confirming whether you have a hacked up and confused computer controlled system or a non-computer controlled fully adjustable carb and Dura-spark ignition system.
If you've got a hacked up and confused computer controlled system it will be in limp mode and power and mileage will be poor.
Look at the distributor for a clue. IF it has vacuum advance its most likely a Dura-spark distributor. But if it does not have a vacuum advance then you very likely have a lost and confused computer holding you back.
