Hello everyone! First post here. I am a dedicated Ford truck owner. Both vehicles I have had are both F150's. My first one was a 5.4L v8 03 and my current is a 5.4L v8 06 4x4, seen below.
When I bought the truck it was straight piped. I went ahead and did a GOTTS mod on it. The truck also has the factory tow package. I replaced the spark plugs and engine oil (Amsoil High Mileage). I did a couple basic things like putting in the lightbar and replacing the headlight housings. Other than that it it pretty much the same as when I bought it. I cleaned the throttle body and sensors, using the proper cleaners. I ran two cans of SeaFoam through as well.
With my last truck, I 'flushed' the transmission (not a actual flush, but I changed the tranny oil about 7 times in a short period of time). A buddy suggested I do it, as it was a DOT truck and maybe wasn't treated the best. It was a automatic, just like my 06. Would that do any actual good?
Ok onto the point of this post. I have noticed that truck has a spongy/delayed throttle response. The engine idles normally and there are no codes being thrown. I had a similiar issue with my 03 but it had a cable to the pedal and I just had to tighten that up and it was better. Perhaps because of the straight pipe and GOTTS and no tune?
No, I get 100%. You might need to recalibrate the throttle pedal, did you read and follow that procedure?
I did this:
1. Turn the key to the On position and wait till the lights on the dash come on.
2. Slowly push down the gas pedal completely, then release it as quickly as possible.
3. Turn the key to the off position.
4. Repeat 3 - 4 times.
That is the reset that I kept seeing on the forum posts talking about the diamond mod.
My 5.4 got pretty sluggish when the cats clogged up somewhere around 400k miles. New cats and everything was fine.
I will check into it. I am only at 200k right now, but I do know that they truck was used in construction and for some heavy towing in its past life. It does have the tow package on it though.

I have a 1997 f150 4x4 xlt with a 4.6, it won't burn rubber unless wet and I slam it when I'm on the freeway I have to slam the pedal to pass cars, my truck is straight piped so it gets loud, if I'm rolling on freeway at 50-70 and lightly press pedal rpms go up a couple hundred then drop back unless I press harder then they shoot up to 3500 I get a burst of acceleration and then they go back down after I let off the gas not wanting to stay in that high of a rpm too long it's like I have to quickly press the pedal to get a quick response or it's sluggish takeoff
I checked out the diamond mod and that didn't do anything for me. I get 75.7% for a throttle position. Is that normal?
Thanks!
hey I’ve been reading these old threads. I’m a new member by the way, but I’ve been reading these threads and where y’all talking about diamond bird mod, I googled it. All that comes up is a link back to this very same post. Can someone enlighten me as to what that is? Or where I can find the info?
